When was the last time you watched the sunset by sitting in your balcony sipping a relaxing cup of tea? Well, this is the time to do it.
We know, the times are difficult, full of uncertainty. We as women tend to worry about many things already and now, it’s added to our list of things to worry about. Family’s health, parent’s health (who are most probably in different cities), office work, video call meetings, eating healthy, staying hydrated and keeping an eye out for any amount of slight symptoms for COVID19. It’s not easy.
We spoke to a few working women professionals (including the ones in our offices) and the majority of them felt that their responsibilities were actually increased. Do you feel the same? Social distancing sounds fancy and allows you to work from home, but it comes with its own set of responsibilities and challenges. Constant worry is only going to add to the panic and it’s not good for your immune system.
But humans are known to find a silver lining in whatever situation they go through. You must have already watched Italian citizens make good use of their quarantine time by singing, paying tributes to the medical professionals and most importantly picking something interesting for which they never had time before. Similarly, we listed down a few things you can do, during your quarantine time which will allow you to relax a little, explore a little!
Finish that book
You have enough unfinished books, don’t you? then what are you waiting for? Pick it up, fix a hot cup of tea and get reading! New York Library is open for you to pick up any book online and read it.
Try to learn things that you have always wanted to
Many websites, online learning centers are now offering free courses, starting from data science to baking. Start taking one. Finish at least 1-3 courses. It will definitely be time well spent!
If you’re in a field that requires you to be updated at all times, this is the golden time to learn a few new things. Book yourself for those courses and add to your knowledge. A little nerdiness didn’t hurt anybody!
If you’re quarantined with your family, friends, roommates, what better time to catch up with them? You can literally turn your homes into The Human Library and know about their social settings, friends, what have they been feeling, their secrets, everything! Now, that will be time well spent, don’t you think?
Meditation mornings
If you are already someone who practices this, then kudos, but for the ones, who always had the intent but never got time in busy morning schedules, this is the best time to get yourself into a habit!
Game evenings
It’s on! bring all your board games, pour some tea or wine and start already!
Movie nights
Bring out those cozy lights, set up your drawing room with pillows and popcorn and watch all your fave movies! Now that would be spending quality time with yourself and your family right?
Obviously, we mean by video calls or phone calls. Remember that friend to whom you were meant to call, but never got time in the last few months, well, now you have time!
Travel plans
Yes, the situation is bad now and it’s advised not to go outside and travel but this too shall pass, how about new years? don’t you want to celebrate the end of this year in the most spectacular way? Plan a detailed itinerary and book those tickets already!
Find your dream job
This is the best time to understand all the opportunities that you might be interested in. Make a list of your dream jobs and get applying!
Shenzyn has more than enough job opportunities for you to get applying!
If you’re leading a team or handling a project for a longer duration, you can utilize this time to get down to brass tacks. Plan your team structure, budgets, cross-communication within teams, understanding consumer insights, going through some case studies, building a reference bank, etc. You may not notice but working in isolation actually saves 1-2 hours daily as compared to the office. In the office, you might spend time talking to your colleagues, getting involved in meetings that could have an email but at your home, you’re the boss of all your time. Only you have control over how to spend it.
Even though this is a confusing time, look at what’s happening when we take a pause. Earth is recovering. In Italy, dolphins and swans have come back in the canals, pollution has reduced and clean hands have made a royal comeback! So, without dwelling over the current situation too much, we can utilize this time and reconnect with ourselves.
When I first heard about Motherhood Penalty, I was shocked beyond imagination! All my life I have seen moms not only working full time but kicking ass while doing it. My mother, while raising 2 daughters and staying with a joint family would cook meals for the entire family and catch a morning 8AM train for her full-time job, would learn the Japanese language as a passion project and would help us...

It's 2021, it's time for equality, why celebrate Women's Day on such a big scale whereas we can celebrate equal rights and opportunities.
